Cyberbullying Essay
The issue at hand needs to be handled in a manner in which James does not feel awkward or put into an uncomfortable position. In this instance, I would see if James knew who created the email accounts and sent the emails. If he did, I would address the student’s actions with a form of discipline commensurate with their offense. In this case, I would recommend suspension if possible, as this cyberbullying in this manner can be detrimental. If he was not aware, I would keep an ear out in classes to see if students mention the offenders.
The next steps to be taken by me would be to have James contact yahoo.com and explain the situation; then request to have them possibly rectify the fake emails, if possible. I would also let James know that while the emails may be damaging to his pride, he still needs to believe in himself and not let them affect him in a negative way. If he does, the bullies are accomplishing what they want. As for handling this in the classroom, I would take this time to have a class on bullying and cyberbullying with my students. I would begin by letting the students know that I was once bullied and how it made me feel, and the way that I handled the situation. The lesson itself would cover things such as how damaging it can be and how easy it is to forget the consequences of your actions from behind a keyboard. The lesson could branch off into respect and the reason it’s better to give it than to bully others in order to make yourself feel better, or whatever the reason may be bullies do what they do.
When the lesson is over, I would let the students know that my door is always open to discuss any problems they may be having. They would also be told that any conversations can be had outside of my normal times and are completely confidential, unless very serious. Hopefully this would make students more comfortable to speak up about bullying in the school knowing they have a teacher that will be there to help them out in these situations.

This assignment was very good for any person that plans on being a teacher because this is a very realistic situation. This is something we will more likely than not see one of our students encounter at some point in our career, so this lesson was good way to introduce us to the topic.
Something like this can be used in the classroom during an anti-bullying lesson that I would teach. It can give students a snap shot into the detrimental effects of cyberullying and possibly have them think twice if they were considering cyberbullying. Cyberbullying is the use of the Internet and related technologies to harm other people, in a deliberate, repeated, and hostile manner.
